Publishing Your Event

What has to be filled in first, what happens when you publish, and what changes afterwards.

Nothing is being charged yet
You can state an entry fee on your event, and DivingHost does not collect it. No money moves — to you or to us. A fee on your event today is a price you are advertising, and payment is arranged directly between you and the competitor. The $5.00 publish fee works the same way: shown on the form, collected by nothing.

Draft, Then Published

A new event is a draft: yours alone, invisible to everyone else, and free to change. Publishing puts it on the public events listing and gives it a page anyone can open, signed in or not.

Publish from Manage on your own event.

What Has to Be Filled In First

  • A start date.
  • A town.

That is the whole list. The town is required because a listing entry with no place tells a traveler nothing, and it is checked as the town specifically — a venue name on its own reads like a location and is not one.

You do not need a schedule, a poster, a sanction claim or an entry fee to publish. All of them can be added afterwards.

Registration Is Separate

Publishing makes the event visible. It does not open registration — that is its own step on the same screen, and it has no preconditions at all.

If you set a registration window when you created the event, it opens and closes by itself at those times. Otherwise open and close it by hand.

Editing After Publishing

You can keep editing a published event. Most changes are silent, but some are material and email everyone who has entered:

  • The event's start or end date changing.
  • The event moving — venue name, street, town or state.
  • The time zone changing, if it actually moves the event in time. Correcting Phoenix to Denver in January moves nothing, so nobody is emailed.

Renaming the event does not email anybody.

Changing the schedule emails registrants too, with a switch to suppress it that is ticked on by default — a moved weigh-in is something a fighter has to act on. Announcements are the other way round: the notify switch is off by default, because most posts are "parking is round the back".

A Material Edit Can Unsettle a Confirmed Sanction

If a federation has confirmed your sanction, changing the event's name, dates or location marks that evidence as stale — the federation approved a particular card, and the card has changed.

For an imported event, Re-sync from Webpoint on the edit screen is how the mark comes back without a person having to review it.

Canceling

Canceling emails every registrant and cannot be undone. A canceled event stays in the record; canceling does not delete it. You are asked to confirm first, and told how many registered fighters will be emailed.

Deleting an Event Nobody Entered

A draft or a canceled event can be deleted outright from its manage screen with Delete event, as long as nothing about it ever reached anybody: no fighter has entered it (a withdrawn entry counts), you have not invited anyone to it, and no payment has been made against it, including the publish fee.

On a draft you can delete, Delete event takes the place of Cancel, because canceling a draft tells nobody anything. Deleting removes the whole event and everything you entered for it: its details, dates, location, description, poster, schedule, officials, announcements and sanction claim. It cannot be undone, and you are asked to confirm first.

An event you imported from Webpoint goes back to the From Webpoint list on your dashboard when you delete it, so you can import it again.

Once anybody has entered, the event stays as the record of that, and canceling is the way to call it off.

Completed is likewise final, and asks you to confirm too.

The Publish Fee

A free event costs a one-time $5.00 fee to publish. It is per event, not per fighter, and a paid event does not owe it — there the fee is built into what a competitor pays, which setting an entry fee explains.

The fee is asked for on the manage screen, and only when you go to publish. Drafting is free, so nothing is owed on an event you never put in front of anybody.

Paying does not publish the event. Once the fee has gone through, the Publish button stops being blocked and you press it yourself.
